In games, you do not want DoTs. You want to stop DoTs. But IRL DoTs aren’t quite so cut and dry.
IRL DoTs take a number of forms. Some are temporary, some are daily. Some are very strong, others are weak. Some examples of DoTs are:
- illness or injury
- eating poorly
- a job
and on and on… but I think you get the drift. It’s anything that takes your HP over time. Some of those are generally regarded as good (a job, school, kids, etc.) while others are not so good (illness, stress, etc.) So, already, the answer to this question is No. DoTs aren’t always a bad thing.
In fact, the more positive DoTs are often what create goodness in your life. As with everything, it’s a balance. Ask yourself: What are you getting out of this DoT? How is it serving you or serving others important to you? Does it bring you closer to a goal or something you want? Now compare that to what you lose. Do you get more good out of it? Then let it ride. If not, get rid of it and replace it with a positive DoT or HoT. Sometimes just replacing it with a positive thought around the DoT is enough (for example: “Clearly, this injury tells me I’m not high enough level. I should slow down and learn from it!”)

I know pets seems like an odd one, but I spend a lot of HP making sure they do well (training, long walks, etc.) but the heals I get from the snuggles and kisses make it totally worth.
